Things Required

  • Cleanser
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Face Oil/ Cream/ Moisturiser
  • Steamer
  • Face pack according to your skin type

Basic Massage Steps for Beginners

  1.   Clean your hands or the massage tool (Gua Sha or Roller). Tie back your      hair.
  2.   Wipe your face with a mild cleanser.
  3.   Exfoliate your skin to scrub off dead skin cells.
  4.   Massage face with pure aloe vera gel for 5 to 7 minutes.
  5.   Pick the right oil for face massage according to the weather and your skin    type. You can also use a cream or a moisturizer.
  6.   Steam your face to soften pores for easier oil penetration.
  7.   Apply a face pack to nourish the skin from deep within.

Facial Massage Movements & Techniques

  • Swipe your fingers from Chin to Temple.
  • Swipe your fingers from Chin to Glabella (area between eyebrows and above the nose) via temples.
  • Fold your fingers and swipe your knuckles from glabella to temples.
  • Swipe your fingers from nostrils to temples.
  • Rub your thumb on the top of your nose from the glabella to the tip.
  • Swipe your fingers from the upper part of the forehead to the temples.
  • Swipe your knuckles from chin to eyes via temples. Rest your folded fingers on your eyes for 5 seconds with gentle pressure. Then come back to the chin through the sides of the nose and the lips.
  • Use your fingers to massage each cheek from jawline to temple one by one.
  • Swipe your fingers from the tear duct to the temple while putting gentle pressure on the eyes for 5 seconds.
  • Make a V-shape with your index finger and middle finger. Massage the upper area and the lower area of the lips from inside to outside.
  • Swipe your fingers on your neck from the bottom to the jawline.
  • Interlock the fingers of both hands. Keep the interlocked index finger on the upper lips and thumb on each temple. Gently pressurize and vibrate your hand.
  • Tap your fingertips all over the face and the neck for 10 seconds.

Points to Remember

  • Repeat each step 5 times.
  • Put gentle pressure on the destination point at the end of each stroke.

Facial massage for a slimmer face

Face massage for the jawline involves the workout of face muscles. Follow these steps for a face slimming massage at home.

  • Speak each vowel (A, E, I, O, U) with full stretch to your facial muscles.
  • While speaking A and E, pull back your lips completely.
  • While speaking I, open your mouth widely.
  • While speaking O and U, make a pout as big as you can.

Is it okay to massage your face every day?

A gentle massage of 3-5 minutes can be done every day without any second thought. But a full face massage of 20-25 minutes should be done only once or twice a week. Restrict your massage time to a maximum of 10-12 minutes if you have oily or acne-prone skin.

Should I buy a Jade Roller or Gua Sha for face massage?

This might be a quick question in your mind whether investing in a Gua Sha, metal roller, or jade roller for face massage is a wise decision. Traditionally, ayurvedic facial massage was given with clean hands only using various techniques like circular motion, tapping with fingers, kneading with knuckles, vibration, and stroking. However, you can give a try to face massage instruments if they suit you.

Bottom Line

You don’t need to spend your hard earned money to keep your skin radiant. Your hands are the best face massager for glowing skin. Pick the natural personal care products for face lift and wrinkle-free skin.
